Temporary closures

Dear visitors,

In order to be able to open the major special exhibition “Planetary Peasants" on 23 May, from March to May large sections of the museum have to be closed to the public. You will find detailed information below.

Please note that the permanent exhibition “Paths of Modernism” with the masterpieces of Classical Modernism and Art in the GDR had to be temporarily dismantled until the end of October 2025. During this period, you will find some of the most prominent paintings and sculptures, which are most popular with visitors, in an interim exhibition called "Rendezvous. Masterpieces from the collection".

An overview of the closing times

17. March — 16. April 2025

The museum is completely closed for important maintenance and renovation work.

17. April — 22. May 2025

The following exhibition areas are open:

  • Rendezvous. Masterpieces from the collection (interim exhibition in the Talamt building)
  • Sacral art from the Middle Ages to the Baroque era
  • The historical rooms in the Talamt building

The following exhibition areas are closed:

  • Special exhibitions
  • Paths of Modernism.  Art in Germany in the 20th Century
  • Old Masters. Art of the 16th to 19th Centuries
