Planetarische Bauern

[Planetary Peasants]

Agriculture, Art, Revolution

23.05.2025 — 14.09.2025

2025 marks the 500th anniversary of the end of the German Peasants' War and of Thomas Müntzer's death. This provides the occasion for a contemporary artistic investigation. Werkleitz is inviting 15 international artists and collectives to develop new works during a residency in Saxony-Anhalt. The Kunstmuseum Moritzburg Halle (Saale) is curating up to 15 further positions. Up to 30 contemporary works will therefore be presented in the joint exhibition "Planetary Peasants" at the Kunstmuseum Moritzburg Halle (Saale) from May to September 2025.

Some of the most important sites and places of remembrance of the historic Peasants' War, which is closely associated with the name of the preacher and militant Luther antipodean Thomas Müntzer, are located in central Germany. The Kunstmuseum Moritzburg Halle (Saale) and Werkleitz take this as an impetus for a artistic investigation that deals with the preconditions and open questions of historical occurrences as well as with the social, economic and material conditions of today's globalized agriculture and its planetary impacts.

The Werkleitz Festival 2025 responds to the exhibition project with a film program and invites artists to present interventions in the Zentralmagazin der Naturwissenschaftlichen Sammlungen (ZNS).
